Volume 4 of the West Foot Forward series pairs 2 of Tucson’s most exciting and unclassifiable groups on one record that is all about improvisation.
Mik and Scott are Mik Garrison and Scott Kerr; 2 one-man bands that have joined together like a free-form funk/jazz/alt-hip-hop Voltron. Their WFF contribution, “Get Down!” is a live favorite from their captivating live shows/parties…recorded live in the studio in one take, with NO overdubs, Mik & Scott make more noise than most 6-piece groups.
The flipside features the enigmatic trio Gamma Like Very Ultra. GLVU have been performing their unique instrumental compositions for more than a decade; their sound incorporates elements and influences from prog, math-rock, post-rock, free jazz, drone and more, coalescing into a primordial soup that is encapsulated perfectly in their WFF selection “Worldz”. Recorded live in the studio (and in one take!), with only a single synth overdub augmenting what is otherwise the trios monstrous live sound
